Beckley Campus nursing professor selected as Professor of the Year finalist by the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia

BECKLEY, W. Va. — Peggy Fink, an associate professor at the WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus, has been selected as one of five 2025 Professor of the Year finalists by the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia.

Fink, who serves as the director of the WVU Tech Student Health Clinic, earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from WVU Tech, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP) and a PhD from WVU. Her teaching and research interests include women’s health and palliative care.

"I’m fortunate for the opportunity to work with and learn from wonderful students and dedicated colleagues," Fink said. "It is a true privilege for me."

As a finalist, Fink has been invited to interview Feb. 9, and the winner will be announced April 9 during an awards banquet in Charleston at the West Virginia State Capitol Culture Center’s Great Hall. The winner will receive a $10,000 award and a trophy.

The Faculty Merit Foundation was established in 1984 to recognize innovation and creativity among faculty at West Virginia’s public and private higher education institutions. The annual program aims to bring faculty achievements to public attention.

Other finalists include Sam Zizzi, the Dr. Pat Fehl Endowed Professor in the School of Sport Sciences at West Virginia University; Rico M. Gazal, professor of forestry at Glenville State University; Rebecca J. Giorcelli, professor of information systems management at Fairmont State University; and Barbara Ladner, professor of English at West Virginia State University.

The Professor of the Year award is sponsored by individual donors, United Bank, Bowles Rice LLP, Greene, Ketchum, Bailey and Tweel LLP, the Maier Foundation and the Daywood Foundation.
