KEYSER, W. Va. — The WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus recently held a Junior Nursing Academy for Mineral County middle school students who are interested in pursuing a career in nursing.
The academy, held Aug. 4-6 at WVU Potomac State College, offered students hands-on learning opportunities on campus and at a local hospital.

New to this year’s event was a nutrition escape room activity. Offered by Dr. Diana Niland, the escape room centered around MyPlate food servings groups.
Dr. Kasey Beckman-Sirk assisted academy participants with their certification in the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid Training.
During their rotation at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital, three students were invited to get a behind the scenes look in the operating room to watch a surgery being performed.

“We received such positive feedback from the participants and their families,” said Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair.
