- Amber Bjorsson was born one of four children in Tulsa, Oklahoma, coming to Roane County, West Virginia at 8 years old. She was a straight “A” student, a student athlete, and had an ACE score most would run from. She is currently living in Logan County, and serves as a Recovery Coach for the West Virginia Council of Churches helping clients in a Day Report Center.
- Mary Kay McFarland, is a Teaching Associate Professor, and West Virginia Uncovered Project Coordinator in the WVU Reed College of Media. She joined WVU in the summer of 2009. She teaches visual and multimedia journalism. Before coming to WVU, McFarland worked at The Charleston Gazette as a staff photographer and multimedia editor. She is co-collaborator of the Women Beyond Bars Project.
- Rayna Momen is a Morgantown native and former W.E.B. Du Bois Fellow, pursuing a PhD in Sociology with an emphasis in Crime here at WVU. Rayna goes inside state and federal prisons in a volunteer capacity as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate courses, and as a member of a Think Tank and Book Club. They are a longtime volunteer with the Appalachian Prison Book Project.
- Moira Tannenbaum, MSN, APRN, CNM has been a nurse-midwife for 11 years and RN for 22 years, worked in a variety of clinical settings and is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). As a midwife, she has attended births in homes, birth centers, hospitals and served the childbearing population of a women’s state prison for a year. She has been involved in advocacy/policy work on local, state and national levels. Since 2017, she has been working as a nurse in a county jail, with the intention of gaining more insight into the complexities involved with the U.S. correctional system, especially around childbearing women.
