Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Director of the Faith Community Nursing program at the WVU School of Nursing, recently completed international training to become a Certified Forest Bathing Guide through the Forest Bathing Hub.
This globally recognized program brings together participants from around the world to explore the healing power of nature, preparing guides to lead experiences that promote both physical and psychological well-being through intentional time in natural environments.
“Forest bathing is a powerful tool for healing and restoration, and I’m excited to share this practice with nurses and communities across West Virginia,” Smothers said.
As part of her commitment to holistic health and wellness, Smothers has incorporated education on forest bathing into the Holistic Nursing Continuing Professional Development course offered at the WVU School of Nursing. This integration reflects a growing recognition of nature-based practices in nursing and community health, especially in rural and underserved areas.
