Broadening Her Goals
What made you consider nursing as a program of study initially?
I am already a registered nurse and had been for 16 years when I entered into the RN-BSN program.
What made you want to pursue your bachelor’s degree?
I have three children who are finally at ages that being able to complete a degree would be much easier than it would have been when they were smaller. I have enjoyed a pretty phenomenal and extensive career in nursing. I am at the point in my career that my goals have become broader and would require additional education to obtain.
Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?
I needed an asynchronous program that I would be able to fully complete online due to my work schedule and the activities of my children.
Could you share a positive experience from your time at the SON?
I really appreciated the fact that even though I was enrolled in an online program, all of the professors were available and responded immediately to any questions or concerns.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to another RN considering their BSN?
That the program can be completed on a busy work schedule. The deadlines for work submissions are very reasonable and attainable. Yes, being an RN for so long and going back to school can be intimidating. However, your goals are worth the time and the effort to complete.
How do you believe your BSN will help you in your career?
I have applications submitted to complete my master’s degree and take my career even further than I have. Obtaining a BSN was the first step to obtaining my goals.
Can you tell us more about your career? What’s next for you?
Currently, I am a Pediatric Critical Care Transport Nurse for WVU Medicine Children’s. I hope to be accepted into the nurse practitioner program at WVU and become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
Why would you recommend WVU SON to someone?
I would recommend WVU SON because there are multiple programs available and different options for attaining the education you need. The professors are extremely knowledgeable and are easily accessible for any questions or concerns you may have. I felt extremely supported throughout my entire program.
