Grateful for a Wealth of Knowledge

There are very few days that don't go by that a provider, co-worker, patient, or family member asks me “Where did you graduate?” or “How long have you been a nurse?” Three days off of orientation I had a patient who was very critical and complex, and I did not feel his needs were being addressed, so I decided to act as an advocate during interdisciplinary rounds. I spoke up regarding the patient’s situation and my recommendations for his treatment plan. The physician who is head of transplant surgery shook my hand, asked me my name, where I went to school, and said." I agree with you young-lady, thank you for your recommendations, we will make them happen." He then stated, “I think we need to start recruiting nurses from WVU.”  

I will forever be grateful for all of the learning opportunities that I received through the WVU School of Nursing. I certainly would not be where I am today without the support of faculty and the strong nursing program that WVU has to offer. Every single care plan, assignment, exam, clinical experience, and patient has shaped the nurse that I have become today. I am so grateful for the wealth of knowledge that I received as an undergrad.
