Sharing Her Passion for Lifelong Learning
What made you consider nursing as a career?
I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. I was interested in caring for others.
Did you have an ah-ha moment about wanting to become a nurse?
I cannot remember time when I wasn’t excited about being a nurse. The older I got, the more I realized what an impact a nurse has on the health of others.
Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?
I chose West Virginia University (WVU) after careful consideration. First, I explored all doctoral degrees and decided that the Doctor of Philosophy is what I wanted to pursue. After looking at programs in three different states and after talking to many Program Directors, WVU was the school that best fit my interests and needs.
Could you share a positive experience from your time at the SON?
There were so many positive experiences from my time at WVU in the School of Nursing. It started with the Program Director and continued with the Program Specialists & Graduate Advisor and then to all the faculty. I did not have any bad experiences. I received the best education and I had great role models and mentors.
What’s one piece of advice you would give your freshman self?
One day at a time and everything will not be perfect. It will be hard, but it will be worth it.
How has your WVU SON education helped you in your career?
My WVU education has prepared me to be a competent skilled leader and nursing scientist. I learned so much that has helped me advance in my career.
Could you tell me more about your career?
I am the Director of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Davis and Elkins College.
