Doctor of Philosophy
The purpose of this Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is to educate nurse scholar-scientists for research-intensive roles and is offered both part-time and full-time, composed of in-person and online learning components.
This program prepares graduates who are well prepared to contribute to the body of nursing knowledge; educate the next generation; and assume collaborative leadership roles. These objectives are achieved through upholding the following expectations of our schools scholars:
Analyze theory, scientific base, and methods to generate knowledge that informs nursing science, practice, and policy.
Differentiate the integrated roles and responsibilities of the nurse scholar in teaching, practice, and service.
Disseminate scholarly works through publications to advance the knowledge base of nursing.
Conduct research that adheres to scientific integrity and ethics.
Coursework is delivered online during fall and spring semesters, and summer courses are offered in a seminar-style, face-to-face format. Once students defend a dissertation proposal, they advance to become doctoral candidates. Students then complete the research and dissertation phase, which culminates in a written and oral dissertation defense.
