Julie Wood, an alum and long-time employee at WVU Tech, recently received a WVU Values Coin. She has worked 25 years with WVU Tech, 23 of which have been spent with the Nursing department.
The research display including 21 research manuscripts from 48 faculty members; 16 scholarship papers, including book chapters, education and clinical articles from 40 faculty members; and 14 abstracts for presentations, both oral and posters, from 40 faculty members. Additionally, 24 students were involved across these projects.
The inaugural cohort of 23 scholars, including Clinical Associate Professor Angel Smothers with the WVU School of Nursing, were selected for their dedication to community engagement, will be crucial in advancing scholarship, promotion and tenure support, and community engaged practices at WVU.
West Virginia University will offer additional financial assistance to incoming first-time freshmen with the launch of the WVU Pledge, a last-dollar-in aid program for qualifying Promise Scholarship recipients, set to begin with the fall 2023 semester.
“The state of West Virginia University is strong,” President Gordon Gee said during his spring State of the University address on Monday (March 27). “And we will be even stronger in the decades to come, thanks to a concerted focus on what matters most.”
As part of National Heart Month, a faith community nurse and a WVU School of Nursing student led an educational event in McDowell County to support women’s heart health.
Dr. Emily Barnes will now serve as our Associate Dean for Faculty Practice, and Dr. Angel Smothers will assume the newly established role of Associate Dean for Community Engagement.
Thanks to the generosity of more than 100 donors, the WVU School of Nursing raised more than $32,000 during the sixth WVU Day of Giving.
The WVU School of Nursing Beckley campus has a new ambassador. The school announced Kaitlyn Sizemore as the new ambassador to represent the campus. Originally from Shady Spring, Sizemore will represent the school at recruitment events and activities.
Supporters of West Virginia University donated a record $18.1 million Wednesday (March 22) during the University’s sixth Day of Giving. More than 8,200 gifts were made during the 24-hour online fundraising event held across the University system, also a new record. The $18.1 million figure tops 2022’s WVU Day of Giving record of $15.5 million raised from just over 5,600 gifts.
