The senior Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students on the WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus recently completed training to administer naloxone (also known as Narcan) nasal spray, a potentially lifesaving opioid overdose medication.
The nasal sprays were provided by Patricia Barbarito, RN, CTTS, Director of Preventive Medicine for WVU Medicine: Potomac Valley Hospital.
Participants at the training are pictured, left to right, front to back: Patricia Barbarito from Preventive Medicine, Katelyn Rexrode, Mattea Gambini, Mariah Durr, Kendra Pratt, Aslyn Didawick, Ashleigh Burgess, Katelynn Rasnake, Sarah Billmeyer, Cristin Carnell, Avery Shanholtz, Stacy Gallant, Ellen Barnard from Preventive Medicine, Molly Landis, Jaden Corbin, Allyson Crowe, Mackenzie Cook, Hannah Zbinden, Hanna Sredy, and Aubrey Gahagen.
“Participating in naloxone training is yet another way our students are going above and beyond to prepare themselves to care for those in need,” said Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair. “We are also grateful for the donated doses of naloxone from Potomac Valley Hospital, which will equip our students with a potentially lifesaving tool.”
