There are resources and help within reach for managing stress, sleep, nutrition, relationships, substance misuse, mental health, self-care and more. WVU’s new well-being website makes it easy to find these resources and information quickly.
Well-being encompasses more than just the physical – it’s the mind, body and spirit – and, it’s a shared responsibility of the health, wellness and well-being units and programs across the WVU campus.
WVU’s well-being initiative grew out of the work of the former Office of Health Promotion and Wellness, which recently transitioned to the Health Sciences and Purpose Center umbrellas, and was formed in part following the results of Great Jobs Great Lives: The 2014 Gallup-Purdue Index Report, a study of more than 30,000 college graduates across the United States, that affirmed the responsibility of higher education institutions is to equip students to not only pursue better jobs, but to successfully pursue better lives. The report segmented well-being into five areas: purpose, social, financial, community, and physical, and explained how student experiences on campus affect their engagement in future jobs and overall life satisfaction. The report noted, "The odds of thriving in all areas of well-being more than double for college graduates when they feel their college prepared them well for life outside of it."
Embracing health and well-being is a lifelong journey. The path to well-being is different for everyone and can often take many routes. But it can and should be a connected and interdependent journey that leads to thriving college and life experiences.
