MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The West Virginia University School of Nursing will be hosting its third annual Day Camp on Saturday, June 7, 2025, for high school students who are interested in exploring nursing as a career.
During the free one-day event, students can experience what it’s like to be a nursing student by participating in hands-on learning opportunities at the West Virginia Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center. The event will also feature a nursing panel presentation, a mock lecture and an information session.
“This event offers a chance for high school students to experience a day in the life of a nursing student,” said Phillip Engelkemier, Director of Recruitment and Retention for the School of Nursing. “Attendees from the past two events especially enjoyed experiencing hands-on learning simulations. Thanks to their feedback, we have also invited practicing nurses to sit on a panel to share their experiences and insights.”
Day camp attendees will be able to meet faculty members, including Dr. Brad Phillips, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, and Dr. Tina Antill Keener, Director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. They can also meet current nursing students, who can share their experiences and answer questions.
While the event is free to attend, attendees are invited to support our Student Ambassador Scholarship Fund by making a donation. Our student ambassadors help make events like these possible.
Attendees will receive a WVU School of Nursing shirt and lunch will be provided. Registration will be limited to the first 50 students who sign up. Please fill out the Qualtrics form to register to attend the 2025 event.
