Ask the Experts: Preventing Childhood Obesity - March 1

On March 1, from 2-3:30 p.m., the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) will host an Ask the Experts virtual session on preventing childhood obesity. Expert panelists from Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, West Virginia Prevention Research Center and the CDC Division of Population Health will address the intersection of community based research, policy development and program implementation to prevent childhood obesity.

WVU groups to host body positivity event Feb. 19

Groups and organizations across West Virginia University are collaborating to create a night of body acceptance for students. The WVU Collegiate Recovery Program, WELLWVU, Carruth Center, WVU Medicine Student Health and the WVU Women’s Resource Center will host “Accepting EveryBODY” on February 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the WVU Recreation Center, Meeting Room A.

WVU Rural Health Day 2018

Registration is now open for the 3rd annual WVU Rural Health Day on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the WVU Health Sciences Center in Morgantown. The purpose of WVU Rural Health Day is to give pre-health students interested in rural medicine the opportunity to hear about and participate in activities that will enhance, impassion, and provide support in the sometimes daunting path to applying to medical school.

The Office of Interprofessional Education has organized an exceptional group of speakers that will take on the theme of wellness, health and you (WHY) during the 2018 Interprofessional Education (IPE) week. A series of events and poster presentations are scheduled for March 19 - 23 at the Health Sciences Center, and all faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.

Gold Humanism Week at WVU Health Sciences kicks off Feb.12

The Gold Humanism Honor Society is organizing an outstanding group of speakers for the annual Gold Humanism Week lecture series beginning Monday, Feb. 12. Topics include hospitality, empathy and gratitude in medicine, creative writing and pain addiction.
