In the wake of devastating floods that have ravaged southern West Virginia, faith community nurses are stepping up to provide vital support to affected residents in Mingo County. These nurses, who combine healthcare expertise with a compassionate, faith-driven approach, are going beyond the typical call of duty, offering both nursing care and emotional support to those impacted by the disaster.
The WVU School of Nursing has teamed up with Lilly’s Heart Outreach in Mercer County to provide crucial supplies to flood victims across Mercer and surrounding counties. Despite experiencing flooding damage to their own facility, Lilly’s Heart Outreach has remained steadfast in their mission, ensuring that essential supplies are delivered to those in need.

Generations of alumni and friends will come together on March 26 as West Virginia University holds its eighth Day of Giving, an annual 24-hour fundraising effort organized by the WVU Foundation.
The WVU School of Nursing Bridgeport Campus hosted a pledge ceremony on Feb. 20, officially welcoming the third cohort of 22 students into the study of nursing.
Growing up, Selasi Asamoah saw how much joy nursing brought her mom Angela, so she wanted to follow in her footsteps. “I saw nursing as such a rewarding career,” said Asamoah, of Charles Town. “Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a nurse.”
West Virginia University alumnus Aidan Slusser and senior Ella Slusser have found love in the School of Nursing program and as School of Nursing ambassadors.
The WVU School of Nursing is hosting a spring 2025 Virtual Open House for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. EST. This event will feature information for our nationally ranked BSN program, which is offered on the Morgantown, Beckley, and Keyser campuses.
During a special Feb. 7 ceremony, WVU School of Nursing alumna Dr. Laura J. Wood was inducted into the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Wood, who received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1977, was recognized at the Erickson Alumni Center alongside four other honorees, Linda Arnold, Luke Frazier, Sharon Burmeister Lord and Diana Murphy.
