At a special ceremony April 20, the WVU School of Nursing celebrated the bi-annual Lorita D. Jenab Nursing Lectureship, as well as student awards for 2023 and the newest inductees of the Alpha Rho Chapter of the Sigma International Honor Society of Nursing.
Aiden Slussler, a student ambassador with the WVU School of Nursing, joined First at 4 on Wednesday. He talked about what WVU student ambassadors do, the goal of the program, and his own personal goals.
The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon is contributing $15,000 in funding to the WVU School of Nursing to support community engagement work in Barbour County.
As students in West Virginia University Health Sciences’ five schools – Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing,Pharmacy and Public Health – pursue their purpose to serve others, the university is committed to helping them flourish in and outside of the classroom.
As a native of the Beckley area, Richmond eagerly enrolled at the WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. She was progressing well through the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program until she started having some medical issues in late 2019. She was a first semester senior at the time.
Three WVU School of Nursing faculty members attended the Mountaineer Middle School’s Career Day to showcase their profession and encourage the students to consider nursing as a career. Held March 17, the event welcomed sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to explore future career opportunities. Dr. Ann Hendrickson, Dr. Beth Minchau, and Dr. Heather Carter-Templeton represented the School of Nursing at the event.
Dr. April Shapiro, WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus Chair, recently participated in the WVU Potomac State College Women’s “HerStory” Month panel.
Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement at the WVU School of Nursing, has been recognized as the winner of the Outstanding Engaged Research Scholar award.
Led by Patty Colanero, a 69-year-old retired nurse and WVU School of Nursing alum, the group gathered first for an excerpt from “Walk & Talk: Walking Together with Scripture” and then participated in an hour-long walk.
