Why do you want to become a nurse?
I want to become a nurse because I have a genuine desire to care for others and make a meaningful difference in their lives. I want to be someone my patients can trust, especially during some of their most vulnerable moments. I hope to advocate for my patients and make sure their needs, and voices are heard, especially for those who may not be able to advocate for themselves. I want to provide care with kindness, compassion, and respect and make every patient feel valued and cared for. I believe nursing will give me the opportunity to positively impact others while doing work that is truly meaningful to me.
Why did you want to become an ambassador?
I wanted to become an ambassador because I came to WVU from out of state, and I remember what it was like to be a pre-nursing student who was nervous about getting into the nursing program. I know how stressful and overwhelming that process can feel, so I would love to be someone who can support students who may be feeling the same way. I want to be able to answer their questions, share my own experience, and help them feel more comfortable and confident about pursuing nursing at WVU.
What would you like prospective nursing students to know about the WVU School of Nursing?
I want prospective students to know that the WVU School of Nursing is a great program with amazing faculty and staff who truly want to see their students succeed. Everyone is always willing to go the extra mile to help you accomplish your goals. There are so many opportunities to learn and grow, and you have people around you who are willing to support you along the way. Even when nursing school can feel stressful, you are not alone.
What’s your best advice for high schoolers interested in nursing?
My best advice would be to take every opportunity you can and be willing to try new things. You can learn something from every experience, even if it does not go exactly how you expected. Also, do not be afraid to ask questions. It is completely okay not to know everything, and asking questions is one of the best ways to learn. Most importantly, do not let the stress of getting into nursing school discourage you from pursuing something you really want. Everyone’s path looks different and that is completely ok. Nursing school can be challenging but also very rewarding, don’t give up.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Nursing school can definitely be challenging, but it is also very rewarding. Take advantage of the opportunities you are given, ask questions, and surround yourself with people who support you. You do not have to have everything figured out right away. Just keep learning and remember why you wanted to become a nurse in the first place.
