Rural & Community Health Outreach
As part of Rural and Community Health Outreach (NSG 411), students have an opportunity to make real changes in their communities.
Holly Perkins, pictured above, used her senior capstone project and her experience as an individual in recovery to help improve care for veterans with substance use disorder.
Another student, Jessica Cresong on our Beckley Campus, taught mental health coping skills to local fifth grade students as part of her capstone project.
Through NSG 411, our students can make a difference before they even graduate. Other examples are below:
- Nursing student’s capstone project leads to playground improvements to increase childhood exercise
- Keyser students offer primary prevention education, giveaways
- Beckley Campus nursing students form organization to support holistic health in the community
- Keyser Campus senior helps educate middle schoolers about blood pressure
- Nursing student researches substance misuse solutions
