Foundations of Faith Community Nursing
This certificate course teaches participants how to improve health in faith communities, as well as to provide quality care to members of different faith backgrounds in the clinical care setting.
The professional practice of faith community nursing focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community. The tentative start date for Fall 2026 is September 14th, 2026.
This course is for individuals interested in helping to address the unique needs of faith-based organizations. The nationally recognized faith community nursing course is also open to individuals who work as chaplains, pastors, social workers and others. However, only RNs who complete the course can use the title "Faith Community Nurse".
The course is offered asynchronously online and provides students with the opportunity to attend a face-to-face educational session (optional) with our faculty in Morgantown. 40 contact hours are being provided. The program includes four units of study with 28 total learning modules, including: Spirituality, Professionalism, Holistic health, and Community.
Accreditation
The West Virginia University School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
