HVI Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Partners with WVU School of Nursing for Critical Care Course

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) is partnering with the WVU School of Nursing to offer an innovative, two-credit elective course, “Advanced Life-Saving Technologies in the Critical Care Environment,” to senior nursing students across the WVU, Keyser, Beckley, and Bridgeport campuses.

This innovative hybrid course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in the fast-paced world of critical care nursing.

The course, developed by critical care experts from the CVICU, will include a blend of online sessions, simulation exercises, and a shadow day experience in the CVICU, offering hands-on exposure to the latest critical care technologies and real-world applications. The goal of the course is to better prepare students for the demands and complexities of critical care environments, ensuring they are equipped to provide high-quality care from day one of their nursing careers.

The course will be offered in the spring semester of 2025, with 25 students enrolled.

This collaboration between the CVICU and the School of Nursing is a key step toward strengthening the next generation of critical care nurses and ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the challenges of caring for the most vulnerable patients.
