Keyser nursing students volunteer at health careers fair

West Virginia University School of Nursing Keyser Campus students recently volunteered to participate in the WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital Health Careers Fair for Mineral County Schools.

The event, held Oct. 6 at the J. Edward Kelley Complex at Potomac State College, offered high school students an opportunity to explore health care career options.

The Keyser nursing participants taught attendees about diabetes nutrition/food portions, complications, and insulin administration. The students also demonstrated how to give the insulin and allowed the high schoolers to practice the skill.

Nursing students who participated included juniors Brenna Jackson and Alexis Orndorff, and seniors Coby Ridgeway and Kelly Simon.

“I was so proud of our nursing students and the teaching they did this day,” said Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair. “It is wonderful to see them apply their learning and pay it forward to future healthcare professionals!”
