Long-time Keyser Campus donor supports ambassador program

KEYSER, W. Va. — Elizabeth “Lib” Dickson, a long-time supporter of the WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus, is once again making an impact for current and prospective nursing students.

Dickson’s generous $10,000 gift is supporting scholarships for the Keyser Campus Ambassador Program. The program, established in Fall 2022, provides scholarships to student ambassadors selected to represent the school during recruitment events and campus visits.

“Ambassadors are an important resource for prospective students and their families as they explore their college options,” said Dr. Tara Hulsey, WVU School of Nursing Dean. “Providing scholarship support is a win-win, both for our ambassadors and for future nursing students.”

Emily Kuykendall, of Moorefield, has served as a Keyser Campus ambassador since May 2024.

“Being a nursing ambassador has allowed me to connect with students from other campuses and explain to prospective students why I enjoy this campus,” said Kuykendall, who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. “The scholarship has been extremely beneficial in helping me afford my tuition. I am so grateful to have received this opportunity.”

Dickson previously supported the Keyser Campus by purchasing the Gaumard Pediatric Hal manikin and the related bedside equipment, which continues to assist students as they practice their nursing skills in the simulation setting. The Student Ambassador Program Keyser Campus fund will award its first scholarship in Spring 2026.

“The student ambassador role has been a wonderful addition to the work we do on campus in promoting the nursing program and highlighting for the community what we do, especially from the student perspective,” said Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair. “Donors and funding like this make these wonderful opportunities possible and help our programs thrive and grow.”

Donations like this one from Lib Dickson are awarded via the WVU Foundation, the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University.
