WVU School of Nursing faculty member to participate in leadership program

Dr. Emily Barnes, Associate Dean of the Office of Faculty Practice and Community Engagement with the West Virginia University School of Nursing, will join the WVU Women’s Leadership Institute Strengths-based Leadership and Coaching Pod Program.

After participants complete the Clifton Strengths® assessment, an extensive tailored report will be generated for each participant, providing information about their most natural talents.

The curriculum, led by Gallup® trained Strengths® Coaches, is designed to walk participants through their report and begin the process of understanding their results in an introductory workshop. Then, monthly small group meetings will take place to explore the application of the information toward individual, team and leadership goals.

“I joined WLI last year and I’ve been able to attend several online development sessions,” Barnes said. “When this opportunity came through this academic year, it seemed like a good leadership opportunity.”

With her new position as Associate Dean of the Office of Faculty Practice and Community Engagement, Barnes felt the timing was right to seek leadership development. After taking the strengths assessment, Barnes said it reinforced her own understanding of herself.

“I’m hoping to come away from the program with more understanding of how to leverage my own strengths and the strengths of others to yield better products and better morale.”
