Keyser Campus Chair invited to participate in Women’s “HerStory” Panel

Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement at the WVU School of Nursing, has been recognized as the winner of the Outstanding Engaged Research Scholar award.
Led by Patty Colanero, a 69-year-old retired nurse and WVU School of Nursing alum, the group gathered first for an excerpt from “Walk & Talk: Walking Together with Scripture” and then participated in an hour-long walk.
Offering a free, healthy taco dinner to attendees, the event will also feature a cooking demonstration on how to make fresh salsa. Activities will be available for children, teens and adults. Blood pressure checks and glucose checks will also be offered.
The WVU School of Nursing will be hosting its first Summer Camp on Friday, June 2, for high school students who are interested in nursing as a career.
Volunteers from the WVU School of Nursing supported a mini health fair focused on cardiac health for veterans during American Heart Month in February.
Nursing students Sydney Cain, Laura Keene, Meredith Maneno, Kristen May and Grace Wilson offered hands-on demonstrations of nursing skills inside the WV Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center, such as blood pressure and heart rate readings, as well as how to set up IV fluids and provide proper wound care.
Senior students on the WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus recently attended an IPE (interprofessional education) day at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Designed to create a direct pathway for licensed practical nurses to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, the WVU School of Nursing will soon offer an LPN to BSN program on its Keyser Campus at WVU Potomac State College.
The Center for Community Engagement’s annual Excellence in Community Engagement Awards honor extraordinary accomplishments in engaged learning and community impact. This year's recipients include Hayley Harman, a student in the School of Medicine, and Angel Smothers, a faculty member in the School of Nursing.
