Transferring to WVU School of Nursing

WVU Students (Non-Nursing)

Transfer Students (Non-Nursing)

If you are a student currently attending another college/university and you are interested in our nursing program, review the information on the WVU Undergraduate Admissions website.

If you would like to determine which prerequisite courses you have already completed, please utilize the transfer database below. If your courses are not listed, you can request to have them reviewed by providing the course subject, course number, and syllabus through the TERR system.

Official college transcripts from each college or university attended must be sent directly from the institution to the WVU Office of Admissions, P.O. Box 6009, Morgantown WV 26506 or via an online, secure service such as eScrip-Safe, National Student Clearinghouse, or Parchment to wvuadmissions@mail.wvu.edu. Current or former WVU students do not need to have transcripts sent from the Morgantown, Beckley, or Keyser campuses. All transcripts must be received no later than January 15.

Nursing Transfer Students

College students currently enrolled in a nationally accredited nursing program at a regionally accredited college or university may request transfer of previously completed nursing courses using the steps below.

Qualifications

To be considered, applicants will be required to meet all WVU admission requirements in addition to program-specific admission criteria. Submit one application per term and your one campus preference. (Submitting multiple applications for the same term to different campuses may cause a processing delay in your application.)

  • Space available in class.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on all college work attempted.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on all nursing course work attempted.

  • All nursing and prerequisite non-nursing courses must have been passed with a grade of  “C” or higher. Students who are completing certain prerequisite courses may be offered admission; however, the offer will be rescinded if the courses are not completed prior to the first day of classes.

  • Statement of good standing from program in which currently enrolled.

  • Send syllabi of previously completed nursing courses to Dr. Brad Phillips for review to determine whether courses are transferrable.

In programs with limited capacity and competitive admissions, the most qualified students are selected among those that meet the minimum requirements. Students who want to appeal the Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions Committee decision as unfair, arbitrary, or capricious may contact the Director of Admissions and Enrollment. The request will be forwarded to the committee for consideration, and the student will receive detailed information regarding the formal appeal process.

Students admitted to the program must successfully pass a background check, urine drug screen, and physical exam/immunizations review by their healthcare provider; complete Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)/confidentiality and American Heart Association Basic Life Support trainings; and maintain current health insurance.

Note: Students who have been dismissed from any nursing program (WVU or otherwise) will not be readmitted or considered for admission to the program.
