Rural & Community Health Outreach

Rural and Community Health Outreach (NSG 411) is a comprehensive theoretical introduction to community health nursing paired with clinical experiences focused on promoting health and preventing disease in multiple populations. This course culminates in a senior capstone project that addresses an identified community health need.

Students have an opportunity to make real changes in their communities.

Holly Perkins, pictured above, used her senior capstone project and her experience as an individual in recovery to help improve care for veterans with substance use disorder.

Another student, Jessica Cresong on our Beckley Campus, taught mental health coping skills to local fifth grade students as part of her capstone project.
