Keyser Campus to offer nursing course for high school students this fall

KEYSER, W.Va. — This fall, the West Virginia University School of Nursing Keyser Campus will offer NSG 100 as part of the High School ACCESS Early College Program, providing high school students the chance to explore nursing while earning college credit.

The course is designed to help students determine whether nursing is the right career path before they invest time and money in college, while also giving them a head start on their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree by completing a required course.

“Academic Affairs, Larry Kruk, and I have been working on getting NSG 100 ready and approved as an ACCESS course for high schoolers for a couple years now, so it is rewarding to see it come to fruition,” said Dr. April L. Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair. “I am excited for this opportunity for high schoolers to explore the nursing profession through their work in this course.”

The High School ACCESS Early College Program allows students to take WVU courses while still in high school, giving them a jumpstart on their college education and career path. With the addition of NSG 100, students considering nursing can gain hands-on insight into the field and build momentum toward their future studies.

The WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus is located at WVU Potomac State College. Students interested in the ACCESS Early College Program can sign up online through the Potomac State College website.
