Office of Community Engagement welcomes AmeriCorp VISTA member Zack Hostutler

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVU School of Nursing Office of Community Engagement is pleased to announce the appointment of Zack Hostutler as its newest AmeriCorps VISTA member. Hostutler will serve a one-year term focused on building capacity for community-engaged projects in partnership with the WVU School of Nursing.

A native of Wetzel County, West Virginia, Hostutler brings a strong sense of community and a passion for service to his new role. He is currently a student at West Virginia University double majoring in horticulture and agribusiness management.

During his year of service, Hostutler will work closely with Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement at the WVU School of Nursing. Together, they will support the development and sustainability of community-based initiatives that align with WVU’s land-grant mission and commitment to community engagement.

“Zack’s local roots and dedication to service make him an excellent addition to our team,” said Dr. Smothers. “His work will help strengthen the university’s partnerships with communities across the state and create meaningful opportunities for collaboration and impact.”

As an AmeriCorps VISTA, Hostutler will focus on enhancing infrastructure for community engagement, supporting faculty and student involvement, and fostering long-term relationships with community partners.

“I feel very strongly about my ability to support the development and suitability of community-based initiatives in relation to WVUs land grant mission. The idea of having a lasting impact on local communities is both motivating and inspiring” said Zack Hostutler. “All in all, my work with Americorp is a commitment to shared knowledge, and sustainable change. Both of which are values that I strongly believe in and I'm proud to contribute.”

This appointment reflects WVU’s ongoing efforts to promote experiential learning, social responsibility, and positive change throughout West Virginia and beyond.
