December Commencement

The School of Nursing invites all students graduating in August 2023 and December 2023 to participate in the December 16, 2023 Commencement Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. at the WVU Coliseum.

  • Tickets are not required for Commencement. 
  • Free parking is available at the Coliseum and the Canady Creative Arts Center. There will be parking staff and University Police officers stationed to help direct you to the nearest parking area. 
  • Graduates whose ceremonies are being held at the Coliseum should check-in at the Basketball Practice Facility 60 minutes prior to the ceremony time. No one other than the graduate will be permitted into the check-in area.
  • Graduates are required to wear caps and gowns. Purchase online from Herff Jones or in person from the HSC Bookstore. If purchasing from the HSC Bookstore, please contact Chuck Bowers at sm586@bncollege.com by no later than Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
  • All graduates who have earned hoods will be hooded. Hoods will be carried in, draped over the left arm. Hooders should process in and sit with the graduate they are hooding. Faculty are required to wear regalia to participate.
  • Latin honor cords will be distributed by individual colleges prior to graduation day.
  • Each ceremony will last approximately two hours.
  • Graduates needing accessibility services should contact their accessibility specialist.
  • Graduates who were approved to graduate in August and December 2023 will have their names printed in the program.
  • Commemorative programs will be mailed to graduates. Please make sure your permanent address is correct in the system as this is where the programs will be mailed. 
  • Diplomas will be mailed after all grades are finalized and certified by the WVU Office of the Registrar. 
  • WVU has contracted with GradImages to provide quality graduation photos of each student. Proofs will be emailed to the student within 48 hours of the ceremony.

Regalia Information

All participants are required to wear regalia (cap, gown, and tassel, as well as hoods for Graduate students) at Commencement.  Regalia can be ordered either through the HSC Bookstore or Herff-Jones. 

All regalia should be ordered no later than Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

Clear Bag Policy

To provide a safer environment for guests and to ease entry into event venues, a Clear Bag Policy will be implemented for all commencement ceremonies.

WVU’s Clear Bag Policy limits the size and type of bags that guests may bring into an event venue.
