December Pinning Ceremony

The WVU School of Nursing Pinning Ceremony for August and December 2023 graduates will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 5:00 pm in the Okey Patteson Auditorium.  Everyone who participates will have the opportunity to have their name announced, be pinned and walk across the stage.

Please note that we are required to limit guests for each student to a maximum of 3 guests each for the Pinning Ceremony.  (There is no limit for the Commencement ceremony at the Coliseum on Saturday. Details for the Commencement Ceremony will be forthcoming.)

To allow us to properly plan for this event, a response by both students and faculty, is required by Friday, December 8, 2023 as to whether you will or will not attend and the number of guests you will have.

Parking Information

Limited parking is available in the lot in front of the HSC beginning at 4:00 pm.  Additional parking is available at the regular rate as space permits in Mountaineer Station beginning at 4:30 pm. Drivers can drop guests who require ambulatory assistance at the Pylons Entrance prior to parking. Guests parking in Mountaineer Station can take the elevator or stairs to the PRT bridge and follow the covered walkway to the Pylons Entrance and to the Okey Patteson Auditorium.

Arrival & Line-Up Information

Registration will begin at 4:00 pm in the foyer of the Okey Patteson Auditorium. Please check in at the registration desk and be ready for line-up by 4:30 pm. 

Program Information

Line-up for the ceremony begins promptly at 4:30 pm – lineup will be held in the hallway outside the Pylons Commons Area between the School of Dentistry and the School of Pharmacy. Ceremony begins promptly at 5:00 pm.

Reception Information

There will be a dessert reception immediately following ceremony in the Pylons Commons Area.

Required Dress Code

The dress code for the Pinning Ceremony is professional attire with your white lab coat. Professional attire for this event is defined as a dress or skirt (not any higher than the top of the knee and must be longer than your lab coat), suit, sports jacket, or dress pants and shirt. Please make sure your lab coat is clean, pressed and in good repair. Make sure your shoes are comfortable enough to walk the steps in the Okey Patteson Auditorium and to walk across the stage gracefully.

Latin Honors/Cords

Students who anticipate receiving Latin Honors will receive information regarding picking up their cords prior to the Pinning & Hooding Ceremony.  Students are permitted to wear their cords at this ceremony.
