WVU Nursing Scholarships

There are 4, $2,000 competitive scholarships available for the Spring/Summer 2026 academic year. The award is open to any currently enrolled undergraduate BSN or MSN student in good standing.

The selection process is coordinated through Dana Friend, Coordinator of Global Programs, and will reflect the selection criteria below. Completed applications should be sent electronically to Dana Friend and must be received by October 16th, 2025.

Application Requirements

A completed application consists of the following:

  • A statement (one page maximum, 12 pt. font, 1” margins) that includes:

    • Applicant’s academic and professional background

    • Specific interests and career goals

    • How the applicant would use the scholarship if selected

    • Impact the experience will have on their future career

  • A resume

  • Two recommendations, submitted electronically by the recommenders:

    • Should be from individuals familiar with the nominee’s academic performance and achievements, as well as actual and/or potential professional impact on the student’s field of study.

    • One recommendation must be from a faculty member within the school of nursing.

Selection Criteria

A scholarship committee will review applicants based on:

  • Academic excellence

  • Demonstrated leadership

  • Application of scholarship towards nursing-specific study abroad

  • Impact study abroad will have on future nursing goals/career

If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, upon your return, you will be required to submit a one-page summary of the experience and how it will impact your future career in nursing.
