Why do you want to be a nurse?

I want to be a nurse because it has always brought me an abundance of joy to care/help others. Being a nurse will allow me to provide care to others every day and in times that individuals will need it the most.

What does the Pledge Ceremony mean to you?

The Pledge Ceremony means a great deal to me as it is a sense of accomplishment. I was not even accepted into pre-nursing here at WVU until my sophomore year of college. I worked extremely hard to get to where I am today, and the Pledge Ceremony just makes it so real that I am finally getting the opportunity to work towards my dream career at my dream college.

Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?

I chose WVU School of Nursing because I heard absolutely nothing but good things about the school of nursing here. Growing up, I was one of the biggest WVU fans and so WVU was always the college I wanted to attend. It seemed as if articles about the WVU School of Nursing and the amazing opportunities offered were always making an appearance when doing research about different nursing schools. It was the School of Nursing that stood out the most to me and an experience I wanted to give a try.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to find a job in the Labor and Delivery Department somewhere. I am not exactly sure where I want to work, it all depends on the opportunities that arise.

Anything else you’d like to add.

I want to say, do not be scared to take a huge leap outside of your comfort zone! I’m from a very rural area where opportunities like the one I had are not very common and an opportunity that most turn down just to stay close to home. Many people told me I would not make it at such a big school but taking the opportunity that I had, is absolutely the best decision I have made.

As stated before, I was not even accepted into pre-nursing until my sophomore year which means I am just now in my first semester of actual nursing school as a junior and that is something that made me feel so defeated for so long and as if all of those people were right but that did not make me choose the easier route and it did not make me give up. It took a little bit more work and time, but you are capable of anything you put your mind to!

Do not let others determine the future that you can make for yourself. Failing plays a big part in the success process, so understand that it is okay to fail but do not make giving up an option!
