What made you consider nursing as a program of study?

I always knew I wanted to study something pertaining to the medical field because I wanted to be a part of the healing process and be able to witness individuals journey of rehabilitation. The more I began to investigate exactly what I would study, I realized that nursing is a profession that has direct involvement in what I wanted. Not only am I going to be able to be part of the healing process, I get to act as an advocate for patients. I get to see the healing process first hand and provide interventions that are directly guiding healing.

Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?

I chose WVU School of Nursing because of the great reputation it holds. I have family and friends that have gone through this program and came out being well prepared when taking their boards and entering their career.

Could you share a positive experience from your time at the SON?

WVU School of Nursing is a program full of intelligent and well experienced professionals who care about your well-being and genuinely want to see you succeed. Throughout my four years of nursing school, I have continued to feel uplifted and supported and knew there were multiple people rooting for me and ready to assist me when I needed it!

What’s one piece of advice you would give your freshman self?

A piece of advice I would give to my freshmen self would be stay organized and to give yourself grace. I think it is very easy to put too much pressure on yourself. I would tell my freshmen self to take breaks and to be easier on myself because at the end of the day everything works out, you are smart, capable of success, and there is a whole support system to help and guide you through this process!

What are your plans after graduation?

I have accepted a RN position at Ruby Memorial Hospital on the Surgical Intensive Care Unit!

How do you feel WVU prepared you for your next chapter?

I feel that WVU has prepared me well for my next chapter! WVU Nursing not only gave me a great foundation of knowledge in the classroom but put that knowledge and the skills learned into practice frequently during each clinical rotation. I feel confident entering this next chapter due to the knowledge and opportunities I was given these last four years!
