Meet Ashleigh.

After earning her degree in exercise science in May 2024 from Fairmont State University, Ashleigh Petitto wasn't sure what she wanted to do.
But when she stumbled upon the WVU School of Nursing's Bridgeport Campus, which offers the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing to current bachelor's degree holders, she knew it was the right fit.
"My aunt actually works here at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center on the obstetrics floor," Petitto shared. "She's been a nurse her whole life, and she saved my life when I was just a baby, so she's inspired me throughout my whole life and I just wanted to be like her."
Petitto was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, but her aunt used her OB skills to quickly intervene and help save her niece's life.
So far, Petitto says she loves the Bridgeport Campus ABSN program.
"The professors are amazing. I love the small class size," she said. "I came from a small high school, so I just love the small atmosphere."
While she's not sure what area of nursing she wants to pursue, she is excited to explore her options.
She said she's also very grateful to be part of the WVU Medicine Aspiring Nurse Program, which provides $25,000 in scholarships to students at partnering educational institutions.
That financial support, along with tutoring support from the WVU School of Nursing, has made a huge impact for Petitto.
"It's been a great experience so far, and I'm so excited to see it'll take me in my future career."
