Meet Autumn.

Why do you want to become a nurse?
I want to become a nurse because it is a career that is built on the basis of serving others. For me, that is very fulfilling and is something I could commit my life to. I think that being a light for people that are going through a hard time is something that is very important to healing, and can make a huge difference in someone's life! I can't wait to be a nurse!
Why did you want to become an ambassador for the WVU School of Nursing?
I became an ambassador for WVU SON because I think that it is a completely outstanding program, and I want everyone I come in contact with to know about it. I am also a Tour Leader through the WVU Visitors Center, and I found so much excitement in sharing this program with prospective students. Being an Ambassador takes that role to another, and I am already enjoying it so much!
What would you like prospective nursing students to know about the WVU School of
Nursing?
I think the best part of the program is something that you can't find in information sheets or admission rates, and it comes with personal experience. The SON is a community, a family, and a place that can feel so intimate and accepting. My second day on campus, I met other girls that had the same dreams as I did, and they are still my best friends today. We study together, go to class together, and stand by each other in and out of the classroom. To have a community like that is rare, and I think it is so important to emphasize that aspect of WVU SON.
What’s your best advice for high schoolers interested in nursing?
Just apply! I think that if you are even a little bit interested in becoming a nurse, just APPLY! I would also tell them how important it is to find your passion for WHY you want to become a nurse. It keeps you driven and makes the goal achievable!
