Meet Bryce.
Why do you want to be a nurse?
Throughout my senior year of high school, I lacked direction and a clear sense of purpose. I had always admired those who possessed medical knowledge and the ability to perform under intense pressure. I was originally set to attend WVU as a general business major in the fall after graduating; however, I decided to withdraw my enrollment and enlist in the WV Army National Guard as a Combat Medic Specialist.
After spending nearly eight months in training halfway across the country, away from my family and friends, I returned home and worked for several months as an Emergency Medical Technician. Through my experience in the pre-hospital setting and the practical knowledge I gained, I realized that I wanted to further my education and expand my skillset. Nursing became the natural next step in pursuing that goal.
Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?
It's a state school, and growing up in West Virginia, it always seemed like a no brainer that WVU was the school to go to.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I plan to remain local after graduation and, if possible, gain experience at Ruby while fulfilling my service commitment to our country and state. After completing my service obligation, I hope to apply my skills by working or volunteering with medical outreach programs in hospitals or health clinics throughout Latin America, serving underserved communities while deepening my understanding of the region’s diverse cultures.
My experiences traveling in Central America and my connection to Brazil through my wife have fostered a genuine appreciation for Latin American communities and strengthened my desire to contribute meaningfully where I can.
