Meet Chailyn.

Why do you want to be a nurse?
I always wanted a career that would provide stability in life and allow me to be proud of my work. Nursing is so much more than just a job, it’s a role of trust and respect. Holding the title of a nurse will allow my patients and their families to rely on me during some of their most vulnerable moments. In these situations, I will be able to positively influence people through care, comfort, and encouragement.
What does the Pledge Ceremony mean to you?
The Pledge Ceremony to me really represented both the hard work that I have put in to reach this point in my academic journey and exciting possibilities ahead as a nursing student. It signifies my willingness and commitment to continue learning as much as I can in order provide the highest quality of care to my patients. It also served as a reminder of the unity within our cohort, highlighting our shared values and goals we carry with one another’s support.
Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?
I chose WVU School of Nursing after attending a nursing expo at Tech with my dad while I was still in high school. I remember seeing all the different simulation labs and technology that was in the nursing program at the time and wanting nothing more than to learn everything about all of it. I left so inspired after the just the expo, me and my dad never talked about another school, and it was the only school I applied to in the fall of my senior year of high school.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I’ve honestly kept my mind really open to career options after school, but I do know I plan on going back to school for at least two more years to get a master's degree. I’m hoping that throughout nursing school I’ll learn about options that will or won’t work for me. I have always liked the idea of working in women’s reproductive health, either fertility or gynecology.
Anything else you’d like to add.
I just want to thank my family and friends, I wouldn’t be able to have any of these opportunities without them supporting me every single day.
