Meet Madden.
Why do you want to be a nurse?
Since I was little, I have always wanted to be in the medical field. I know many people say that, but for me it was something I truly acted on. I even taught myself how to suture using a bent sewing needle and thread just because I was so fascinated by medicine.
As soon as I graduated high school, I started working as a Clinical Associate at Ruby Memorial Hospital because I was eager to get my foot in the door. Being a CA has taught me so much, but most importantly, it has confirmed that this is the right path for me. I truly love caring for people.
Supporting patients during vulnerable moments and being part of their healing process means everything to me. I cannot wait to continue my journey in nursing and make my dreams a reality.
Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?
Choosing WVU felt natural. I live just 15 minutes from campus, and my grandmother, Sandy Marra, worked at WVU for many years. It feels like home.
Beyond that, WVU School of Nursing offers incredible opportunities and an advanced program that I know will prepare me well for my future career. I love how closely connected the hospital is to the nursing school. Having clinical experiences at Ruby Memorial Hospital alongside classroom instruction creates such a strong learning environment.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to continue working at Ruby Memorial Hospital, this time as a nurse. I hope to stay in my current unit, 9 West Oncology, because it already feels like home. However, I also feel a strong pull toward pediatrics, specifically pediatric neurology.
In the future, I plan to continue my education and become a nurse practitioner. I have no plans to leave Morgantown or Ruby Memorial. This community has shaped me, and I want to continue giving back to it.
Anything else you’d like to add.
I am incredibly grateful for the experiences that have brought me here. From working as a CA to growing up in Morgantown, every step has led me to this moment. I am excited to grow, learn, and serve. I am proud to be part of the WVU School of Nursing.
