Meet Maggie P.
Maggie Petitto, of West Milford, West Virginia, received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and has worked as a scribe in the emergency department at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center for the last four years.
“Just being around nurses and the healthcare setting in general, I can see the need for nurses, so I felt a calling to further my education as a nurse,” Petitto said.
After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), she hopes to work as a nurse in the ICU, then further her education once more to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
She said her experience at the Bridgeport Campus has been “immeasurable.”
“The professors truly care about you as a student and as a future nurse,” Petitto said. “The facility is wonderful. United Hospital Center has been wonderful to us. Anything we need, any help we need, there is definitely somebody on campus who is willing to help you and steer you in the right direction.”
Petitto encourages other interested students to apply, especially because of the location.
“We’re very fortunate to be here in the hospital. A lot of our clinicals happen here and a lot of our resources are here at the hospital. There are scholarships available if you commit to working for WVU Medicine. I think the program and the location specifically is opening a lot of doors for people in this area.”
