Meet Liv.
I understand you are a veteran. Can you tell us about your service?
I am in the Army National Guard and my unit is in Eleanor, WV. My job is a 92 Yankee, which is a supply specialist, and I am currently a specialist. As a supply specialist, your responsibilities will include overseeing and managing all Army supplies and equipment. You'll handle tasks such as receiving, inspecting, inventorying, loading, unloading, storing, issuing, and delivering all supplies and equipment. Additionally, you'll ensure the safe storage and control of weapons and ammunition within secure areas.
I chose to join the Army National Guard because of all of the benefits, like paying for my schooling. Also, it runs in the family. My sister and brother are also in the guard as well. My grandpa is retired 20 years from the guard.
Why did you want to become a nurse?
I’ve wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl. My aunts and other family members are nurses and it has always been interesting. Helping people is important to me.
How do you think being a veteran will help you in your future career?
I think being a veteran in my future career will help me overcome obstacles and know how to deal with different people and situations. Being in the military puts you in a lot of situations and really teaches you how to embrace the suck and not give up if something doesn’t go your way.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I hope to start working! As of right now, I want to be an OR nurse and possibly a scrub nurse as well.
What do you love about nursing?
I love helping people that might not be able to help themselves or do not have family members to take care of them.
Why did you choose the WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus?
I chose WVU Tech because it was close to home and the program is great. The instructors are fantastic and really help you 1-on-1. They want you to succeed.
