Meet Ellianna.

Why do you want to be a nurse?
I am choosing to be a nurse because I want to be there for people. I know what it’s like to feel lost, alone and scared. I know how it feels to be on the other side of that hospital bed and not know what is going to happen next. Yet it is our nurses who see the hardest times of our lives and keep helping.
What does the Pledge Ceremony mean to you?
The Pledge Ceremony is important to me because it is a mark of the beginning. We, as nursing students, are on the cusp of the rest of our lives. A cusp that many of us have been working years to get to. The Pledge Ceremony is a promise to each other and ourselves that we must uphold the dignity of our patients, that we must not act in malice but in faithfulness to everything we have learned and are yet to.
Why did you choose WVU School of Nursing?
I chose WVU School of Nursing because I know they expect great things from their students. They have some of the highest NCLEX averages across the country, they have a level I trauma hospital right next door, and most importantly they provide the room to grow. If I want to be a nurse, I could do that just about anywhere, but if I want to be the best in my field, become highly specialized and save lives every day I know WVU School of Nursing is the place to be.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
After graduation I hope to keep growing. I plan to work in the Emergency Department and eventually become a flight nurse. This would involve transferring patients from one hospital to another or even landing on scene of major accidents. I would get to be in a helicopter with my partner transferring highly critical patients so that they can get the care they need.
Anything else you’d like to add.
I would like to add that I am so grateful to get the opportunity to be a part of this program and attend WVU. For anyone who is struggling to achieve their dreams, whether that’s walking down the block or being a rocket scientist, keep moving forward and trust that He has a plan in all of this.
